Survive: VR Battle Royale Is A Stand Out Port For Mobile VR

I don』t think game names can get any more literal than Survive: VR Battle Royale. Need I say more?

The latest stab at bringing Fornite and PUBG to VR comes from Beijing-based NOLO. We』ve written about the company before ; it』s making an outside-in tracking system that can be fitted to mobile headsets. This offers six degrees of freedom (6DOF) movement for both head and hands. NOLO secured $231,491 to develop the product in a 2017 Kickstarter campaign.

At CES 2019 this week, the company showcased the latest version of its kit, which is already on sale. It』s got a base station, two controllers and a marker to fit to a mobile headset of choice. PC streaming software allows you to beam SteamVR games into the headset without the need of an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. At CES, NOLO showcased this streaming on a 5G router.

To showcase what the kit can do natively, NOLO is announcing Survive: VR Battle Royale. Here』s the weird bit; this is made by Raptor Lab, the same guys that did Stand Out: VR Battle Royale . The wording in a press release suggests this is actually a port of the game to mobile devices. There』s not much other info out there right now but we』re going to follow up with the developer to learn what we can. Last we checked, Raptor Lab was busy working on the Early Access version of Battlefield-style shooter,War Dust.

Stand Out had 20 – 30 players battling it out to be the last man standing on a map that shrinks. We thought it was a little unpolished by it was still a lot of fun to play. The strange thing is that Stand Out itself is still in Early Access, as is War Dust. How many projects is this team going to take on?

No word on what platforms Survive will arrive (zing!) on just yet.
